New Jersey Man Held in Lover's Murder
A New Jersey man accused of killing his girlfriend because he could no longer afford to support two households has been ordered held on $1 million bond. Rosario DiGirolamo was arrested last week after the skeletal remains believed to be Amy Giordano were found in a suitcase in a pond in Staten Island, New York.
Prosecutors believe that DiGirolamo killed Giordano by hitting her with a blunt object over the head, sawed her body into pieces, stuffed her into a suitcase and dumped her into the pond.
"He had to get a hand saw or a hacksaw to complete the job of chopping up the body of Amy Giordano," prosecutor Tom Meidt said during the arraignment.
Son's Picture Found in Suitcase
DNA tests are being conducted on the remains found in the suitcase, but investigators believe it is Giordano because pictures of her son were in the suitcase. The son's father is DiGirolamo.
Investigators were led to the pond by John A. Russo, Jr., who they say is an accomplice in the case. According to the police, Russo helped DiGirolamo buy drain cleaner, reinforced garbage bags and a saw blade. Meidt said Russo also waited for DiGirolamo in Staten Island to help dispose of the body on June 9.
