Police Release Photo of UNC Murder Suspect

Saturday March 8, 2008
Authorities have released a photograph of a man using the ATM card of Eve Carson, the University of North Carolina student body president who was found shot to death on a Chapel Hill city street. The photo shows a suspect at a drive-up ATM machine driving what could be Carson's SUV.

Chapel Hill Police Chief Brian Curran said the photos were the biggest break investigators had in the case. He would not tell reporters where the ATM machine was located or when the photos were taken.

Suspect in UNC Murder

Carson, a 22-year-old from Athens, Georgia, was found early Wednesday morning on a street about one mile from the UNC campus. She was shot several times including once in the head. Police believe she was the victim of a random crime.

Police found her Toyota Highlander on Thursday. In the ATM photo a man with a baseball cap and a hooded sweatshirt is driving what could be Carson's SUV. At first, it appeared the driver was alone in the vehicle, but enhanced versions of the ATM photograph shows a shadowy figure that could be a second suspect in the rear passenger area.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen Carson's vehicle Wednesday or Thursday to contact police. There is a $25,000 reward offered in the case.
