In a videotaped confession, Krajcir admitted that he followed Witte home, sexually assaulted her and choked her four or five minutes. He was not certain she was dead, so he also stabbed her. He had picked Witte as a victim as they were both driving down a Marion, Illinois street.
His 40-year sentence will be served consecutively to another 40-year sentence he was given in the 1982 death of Southern Illinois University student Deborah Sheppard.
Krajcir confessed to the murders of nine women in four states in exchange for not facing the death penalty. After his confession, investigators were able to link Krajcir's DNA to most of the crimes.
