Man Throws 4 Children Off Alabama Bridge

Thursday January 10, 2008
Four young children are lost and believed dead after an Alabama man told police that he threw them off an 80-foot high span of the Dolphin Island Bridge after having an argument with his wife. Authorities searched the waters near Bayou La Batre for the four children, ranging in ages from four months to three years.

Lam Luong, 37, first reported the children missing, telling police that a woman keeping them failed to return them. He later confessed to throwing the children from the bridge, police said, after fighting with his wife, Ngoc Phan.

The victims are Danny Luong, 4 months; Lindsay Luong, 1; Hannah Luong, 2 and Ryan Phan, 3. The oldest child is not Lam Luong's biological child, but he raised him since birth.

Luong worked as a shrimper in the coastal Alabama fishing industry after moving to the area from Vietnam in 1984. The family lived with Phan's mother in the fishing village Bayou La Batre.

Family members told investigators that Lam Luong was a crack addict with a long history of drug offenses.

I have wondered what happened to this creep. I still have those babies on my mind. My grandaughter once lived in Bayour La Batre and I can still remember the bridge. What a horrible feeling those babies must have had before they hit the water. Then having to look and look for them, one as far away as La. May those angles rest on the wings of angels.
