Texas Couple Arrested in 'Baby Grace' Case

Monday November 26, 2007
A Texas man and woman who did not report her child missing have been arrested in connection with the case of a two-year-old girl whose body was found in a storage box on the shore of Galveston Bay. Police are awaiting the results of DNA tests to confirm the identity of the girl they called, "Baby Grace."

Authorities believe the girl is Riley Ann Sawyers of Spring, Texas. The girls' mother, Kimberly Dawn Trenor, 19, lives in Spring with her boyfriend Royce Clyde Zeigler II, 24. The girl's father, Robert Sawyers, 20, lives in Mentor, Ohio.

When asked by friends and relatives where Riley was, Trenor (pictured in mug shot) and Zeigler told them that the girl had been taken away by an Ohio social worker. The child found in the plastic storage container by a fisherman in Galveston Bay had a fractured skull.

The couple first came to the attention of investigators when Riley's grandmother, Sheryl Sawyers, contacted them after hearing about the case and seeing the "Baby Grace" photos that were distributed by the media.

Police searched the couple's home and arrested them Saturday. They were charged with injury to a child and tampering with evidence. They are being held on $350,000 bond. Galveston County Sheriff's Major Ray Tuttoilmondo would not say what was found during the search that prompted the arrests.
