Phil Spector, whose murder trial ended in a mistrial when the jury deadlocked 10-2, is seeking a new attorney for his retrial, which is scheduled to begin early next year. Spector fired some of his attorneys after the mistrial and others quit when the jury hung 10-2 in favor of conviction.

Veteran San Francisco attorney Doran Weinberg told the judge in the case that he and Spector were trying to establish a relationship of trust.

"Mr. Spector and I have been in contact and I think we are well on the way to resolving the issue of representation in retrial," Weinberg told Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler. "There's an issue of establishing a relationship of trust based on the previous case."

Spector, now 67 years old, was on trial for the murder of actress and lounge hostess Lana Clarkson, 40, who was found dead of a single gunshot wound in the foyer of Spector's mansion on Feb. 3, 2003.

Judge Fidler set another hearing for Dec. 7.
