Man Shoots Two to Get to Football Game
A 24-year-old man, who wanted to go see his brother play in a spring scrimmage football game at the University of South Carolina, shot one person to steal a car outside a convenience store in Greenville and when it broke down, shot a 60-year-old woman to steal her car. He was arrested outside the football stadium.
Police say Demetrius M. Pepper stole the vehicles in order to drive to Columbia where his brother, Nathan Pepper (pictured), is a junior defensive lineman for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Sheriff Lee Foster said Pepper stole the first car around 7:45 a.m. Saturday after shooting the owner. The victim was taken to the hospital and treated.
When that vehicle broke down in Newberry County, police said Pepper went to the home of 60-year-old Ellie Halfarce, forced is way into the house and fatally shot her in the face before stealing one of her vehicles.
"There were two cars in the yard that had keys in them. All he had to do was take the car. He didn't have to go in and kill her over a car," Foster said.
Pepper was charged with murder in Newberry County and assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in Greenville County.
