Stupid Criminal Files: Don't Call Us
Thieves thought they had a great idea when the stole 14 cell phones that were stored at the Town of Babylon, New York, public works garage and planned to sell them for a profit. Their plans went awry when the phones turned out to be global positioning system devices which lead police straight to their door.
When city officials found the devices missing, they immediately turned on their GPS system, which showed one of the devices being used inside a house. When police arrived, they found 46-year-old Kurt Husfeldt holding the device in his hand.
Husfeldt was arrested for possession of stolen property. His 13-year-old son and 20-year-old Steven Mangiapanella were charged with the actual theft of the devices.
