A man believed to be the "Baseline Killer" of Phoenix has been
indicted on 74 felony charges, including nine counts of first-degree murder.
Mark Goudeau was also charged with 15 counts of sexual assault and 11 counts
of kidnapping.
"The reign of terror has ended. The quest for justice has just begun," prosecutor Andrew Thomas said. The Baseline Killer terrorized the Phoenix area between August 2005 and June 2006, during the same time the area was terrorized by the "Serial Shooter" crimes.
Goudeau (pictured) has already pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual assault and his attorney, Corwin Townsend, said Goudeau will plead not guilty to the new charges.
"We haven't changed our position at all," Townsend said. "The fact that they threw out more charges does not change our belief that they have the wrong guy."
When Goudeau was first arrested in September, police were hesitant to say that he was the Baseline killer, but later DNA and ballistics evidence linked him to the crimes, investigators said.
