Man Accused of Decapitating Daughter

Monday January 15, 2007
A 37-year-old North Carolina man has been arrested and charged with the death of his four-year-old daughter, whose decapitated body was found by her mother Friday evening in their Raleigh area home. Investigators say they have been able to determine no motive for the crime.

John Patrick Violette (pictured) was found in a motel in Washington, D.C. early Saturday. Police found his vehicle parked at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport late Friday and used his credit card activity to trace him to the motel.

Authorities said Violette quit is job at a home-improvement store on Thursday. They said they had no record of any calls to the Violette home for any domestic disturbances.

"This is devastating for the whole community as a whole, and it's the most horrific thing I've seen in 13 years of police work," police Sgt. S.P. Lapsley told reporters. "That a father could do this to his child, I just can't believe it."

"They went to church every Sunday. They just seemed like a very happy, normal couple," one neighbor said. "This is just so very, very shocking -and devastating."
