Mike Tyson Out of Second Chances?

Thursday January 4, 2007
An Arizona prosecutor plans to seek prison time for former heavyweight boxing champ Mike Tyson, who was arrested in Phoenix last weekend for possession of cocaine and driving under the influence of drugs. "He has run out of second chances, at least in my book," attorney Andrew Thomas told reporters.

Tyson (pictured in mug shot) was charged with two felony counts of drug possession and two misdemeanor driving under the influence charges. If convicted the 41-year-old former champ could face up to seven and a half years in prison.

Thomas said because of Tyson's criminal record he is not eligible for Arizona's drug treatment program for nonviolent offenders, but will be sentenced to jail time instead, if he is convicted.

Tyson has a 1992 conviction for rape and a 1998 no contest plea to misdemeanor assault charges in Maryland.

"I don't take any pleasure out of doing this," Thomas said. "A week ago, my kids and I were watching Rocky Balboa in the movie theater, and we saw Mike Tyson make a cameo appearance in the movie, and now here we are and he’s looking at going back to prison."

Tyson was stopped early Friday after running a stop sign. No alcohol was found in his system, but he failed a sobriety test. When his SUV was searched, police found three bags that tested positive for cocaine.

After his arrest, Tyson admitted using cocaine and said he was an addict.

Mike Tyson’s other crimes should have no bearing on this charge. The 3 strikes rule was meant for repeat offenders: people charged with the same crime over and over. I believe he has no previous drug charges. Mike Tyson has paid his debt to society on his previous charges. Even considering jail time for this offense is a disgrace. Jail time, especially a lengthy sentence is a perversion of justice, a perversion that is becoming far too common in our society.

First get him clean and sober. If he doesn’t stay that way then sentence him. He’s had several chances to straighten out. It’s now or never!

Mike Tyson is such a jerk! Did you see him on Oprah last month, it was totally ridiculous
