A 20-year-old cheerleader and pre-nursing student at Sam Houston State University was shot and killed by an ex-boyfriend in her apartment while three of her sorority sisters listened in the next room. Friends said the boyfriend became obsessed with her after she broke up with him.

Authorities said Jake Taylor, 24, came to the off-campus apartment around 11 p.m. Sunday that Rachel Pendray (pictured) shared with three other sorority sisters. The two went into another room to talk. Pendray's roommates said they heard no other sounds until they heard four or five gun shots a few minutes later.

Police said Pendray had never filed a complaint about Taylor and friends say they never seen the two of them arguing.

Pendray's father said his daughter was a straight-A student and an accomplished athlete who went on church mission trips. "All I can say is I'm very, very proud of my daughter," Mark Scott Pendray said in a story in Monday's online edition of the Houston Chronicle. "She was so full of life. She was just perfect and some fool had to come along and went and killed her."
