Pizza Man Jailed for Shooting Robber

Thursday June 15, 2006
A Charlotte, North Carolina pizza deliveryman apparently got tired of being robbed and the authorities doing nothing about it. Police say after he was robbed in April, he returned to the neighborhood the next day and shot the robber in the head.

Robert Delane Camp, 21, has been arrested on murder charges for the shooting death of Woodrow Dempson, 17. Dempson had a long criminal record, including five assault convictions since turning 16 years old, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Camp reported to police that he was robbed at gunpoint while delivering a pizza on April 23 by four people. The robbers took his wallet, some cash, the pizza and an automatic handgun Camp carried for protection. Camp told police that he recognized one of the robbers.

Police say Camp and Lerone Maurice Morrison, 23, returned to the West Charlotte neighborhood the following day and confronted Dempson at a convenience store. As Dempson tried to run away, he was shot in the back of the head.

Morrison was also arrested and charged in the murder. Police also later arrested two men for the robbery of Camp the night before the shooting.
