Five Killed in Baton Rouge Church Shooting

Sunday May 21, 2006
A man who shot four people at a Baton Rouge church, abducted his estranged wife and three children from the church, and killed his wife has been captured and taken into custody at an apartment complex near the church.

Police responded to a call of a shooting at The Ministry of Jesus Christ church in North Baton Rouge and found four people shot to death and two others wounded. Investigators found that Anthony Bell, 25, had abducted his estranged wife and their three children from the church.

Authorities said Bell then dropped the two older children at a family members's house and left in a rental vehicle with his wife and infant. The woman was found dead in the car outside an apartment complex. Bell was captured at the apartment complex.

Baton Rouge police said that one of the people wounded at the church was the pastor, who is the mother of Bell's wife.

All three children were unharmed, police said.
