Florida Child Molester Gets 90 Years

Saturday May 20, 2006
The state of Florida is beginning to crack down on child predators in light of the Jessica Lunsford case and others, if the 90-year sentence handed to a 60-year-old Sebastian man this week is an indication.

Angel Luis Gonzales, whose wife ran a day care center out of their home, was given the maximum sentence of 30 years on each of three counts of sexual battery after the was found guilty of molesting a 12-year-old girl.

"I wanted to be sure he never got out, and that's a guarantee that he will never be released from prison," said Assistant State Attorney Brian Workman.

Gonzalez also faces charges of lewd and lascivious molestation and attempted lewd and lascivious molestation in connection with an incident involving the other girl. Workman told the Treasure Coast Plam that he has not decided whether to go forward with the second case in light of Gonzales's sentence.

At his March trial, Gonzalez blamed his behavior on a "chemical imbalance" he said was due to him to not having consumed meat for eight years.
