Lawsuit Against Michael Jackson Dismissed

Tuesday April 18, 2006
U.S. District Judge Eldon Fallon has thrown out a lawsuit filed by a New Orleans man who claimed he was lured into Jackson's limousine during the 1984 World's Fair, held for nine days and sexually assaulted.

Judge Fallon dismissed the suit brought by Joseph Bartucci Jr., who claimed he repressed memories of the 20-year-old alleged assault until recently. He sued the pop singer for unspecified damages.

Although there is a one-year statute of limitations on filing lawsuits in such crimes with the victims are adults -- Bartucci was 18 in 1984 -- his lawsuit claimed the statue should be applied from 2003 when he remembered the events. He filed the lawsuit in 2004.

"We're pleased with the results," Jackson spokesman Brian Oxman said. "It's time to get on to new and better things."

Bartucci's attorney argued that his client was so badly beaten by Jackson's bodyguards that the trauma caused him to blank out all memory of it.

"I'm basically shocked," said Bartucci's lawyer, Louis Koerner, about the suit's dismissal.
