Police Search for Escaped Sex Offender
Authorities are searching for a convicted rapist who escaped with three others Saturday night from a state treatment center for sex offenders in St. Peter, Minnesota. The other three escapees were later captured.
Michael Dale Benson (pictured), 42, and three other men escaped through a window after they removed a metal bar and smashed a security window. Using search dogs and a helicopter, police captured two of the men at a local gas station and another at a local pub.
Police Chief Matt Peters said Benson may have left the area in a stolen green four-door 1997 Ford Crown Victoria with Minnesota license plate number MXB-801.
Benson, a Level 3 sex offender, pleaded guilty to rape in 1989 and served a prison sentence until 1993 when he was committed to the sex offender program.
