Security Guard Arrested in Holloway Case
Aruban authorities announced that they have made an arrest in connection with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, but typically they would not say who was arrested and how they were connected to the case. However, other sources have identified the suspect as an employee of a security company who partolled the beaches of Aurba.
Mariaine Croes, spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office, told Margaret Wever of the Associated Press that her office was not prepared to disclose why the person was arrested or how they were linked to the disappearance of the Alabama teen.
Croes did say that the person who was arrested is 19 years old, and has the initials "G.V.C."
MSNBC earlier reported that the person arrested is "believed to be an acquaintance of Dutch national Joran van der Sloot and Surinamese brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe, who were seen leaving an Aruban bar with the 18-year-old American the night she disappeared."
However, Joran van der Sloot's attorney says the Dutch teen does not know the person who was arrested.
"I am absolutely convinced he doesn't know him, doesn't hang out with, or socialize with him, did not know his name," attorney Joseph Tacopina told ABC News. "This somehow brought Joran back into the picture. He knows nothing about him, has never spoken of him, and certainly did not discuss the case with him."
Security Guard Patrolled Beaches
The suspect's name is Geoffrey von Cromvoirt, according to a CBS News report. A reporter in Aruba said he is an employee of a security firm owned by his father. The firm reportedly provides security for the Holiday Inn where Holloway was staying. According to Tocopina, the firm installed the security cameras and patrols the beach near the hotel.
Tacopina said Cromvoirt was possibly on the team that patrolled the beach in the early morning hours. Holloway disappeared sometime after 1:30 a.m. when a nightclub she was at with friends closed.
Jossy Mansur, Managing Editor of the Diario newspaper in Aruba, told FOX News that a security guard's bloody uniform shirt was found buried in an area searched by police while looking for Natalee Holloway early in the investigation.
