A Pennsylvania judge has ordered a school security guard and a hairdresser to stand trial in the bizarre case of 24-year-old Tanya Nicole Kach, who claims she was held against her will for 10 years as a sex slave in the top floor of the security guard's elderly parents' home.
Thomas John Hose, 48, and Judith Sokol, 47, will face charges of three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, one count of statutory sexual assault, two counts of indecent assault, and one count each of child endangerment, corruption of minors, interfering with the custody of children and aggravated indecent assault.
Tanya Kach (pictured at age 14) told authorities that she ran away from home in 1996 to live with Hose, who was a security guard at her middle school in McKeesport and stayed in a top floor bedroom of his parents' home and in the home of Sokol.
At a hearing before District Judge Donald Presutti, Kach testified that she wasn't allowed to leave the house for the first four years and then only infrequently since 2000. She said that Sokol dyed and changed her hair so that she would not be recognized after she was allowed outside.
"There were a few times that he threatened me, he got up in my face and said, 'If you leave, I will kill you,'" Kach testified.
Kach surfaced March 22 when she finally confided to the owner of a neighborhood deli that she was not "Nikki" but the 14-year-old girl who disappeared Feb. 10, 1996. The deli owner notified police.
After she was found, police arrested Hose and later arrested his beautician friend Sokol. As a result of Kach's testimony, Judge Presutti ordered them both held over for trial.
