Judge Allows 1990 Evidence in Dentist's Trial
When Georgia dentist Barton Corbin goes on trial for the murder of his wife in April, prosecutors will be able to introduce evidence from the 1990 death of his then dental-school girlfriend to show "similar transaction," a judge has ruled.
Corbin faces murder charges in Gwinnett County for the death of his wife, Jennifer Corbin, who was found dead of a single gunshot wound in her bedroom. In 1990, Corbin's girlfriend, Dorothy (Dolly) Hearn was found shot in the head in her apartment.
Prosecutors argued in a hearing this week that forensic evidence from the scenes showed that someone had moved their bodies so that it appeared that they died from suicide. Judge Michael Clark agreed, and granted their request to include evidence from the 1990 in Corbin's up-coming trial, scheduled for April 17.
After the death of his wife in December 2004, authorities in Augusta reopened the Dolly Hearn case and charged Corbin with her murder also.
