Atlanta Child Killer's Appeal Rejected

Friday February 10, 2006
A federal judge rejected an appeal by Wayne Williams, the man convicted of killing two children in 1982 and who is suspected of being responsible for killing at least 24 young black men and children in the Atlanta area.

Williams, who is serving a life sentence for killing Nathaniel Carter, 27, and Jimmy Ray, 21, appealed his conviction on several different legal arguments, including that the prosecution withheld evidence from his defense team.

But that evidence "would have had more than a minimal impact upon the outcome of Mr. Williams' trial had it been presented to the jury," Judge Beverly Martin said in her ruling.

Between 1979 and 1981, two dozen young black men and children were killed in a spree of murders that terrorized the community. Carter and Ray were believed to be the last two victims in the murder spree.

In his appeal, Williams also raised several other claims including his innocence, prosecutorial misconduct, admission of improper evidence and ineffective work by his original trial lawyers. Judge Martin rejected all of those claims.

I just wanted to say a few things. I know that in his mind Wayne Williams thinks he is innocent. Which most psycho and socio paths tend to think. He is even convince that those around him think that he is innocent. I have heard him tell reporters that he is just considered “Wayne” in jail. He has also said the some of the victims relatives thinks that he is innocent. I am not sure if the killing stopped after he was arrested. It seems as though when something so horrific as the Atlanta Child Murders occurs everyone wants to find the perpetrators. However, when a suspect is found some people say well they are just rushing to judgment they have the wrong guy. But I bet the majority of the community doesn’t really want “Wayne” back out on the street though. It seems as though he had access to the victims because of his radio show and promises of making the children rich. And I know that from watching a lot of profiles on criminals that when mass murders such as these occur it is usually someone with a lot of access who is able to blend in. Anyway, I was just wondering has he had relations or conjugal visits from women while in jail for over 28 years? Are his parents still alive?

Hi, I wanted to say that I have read info about this case and it is immoral that these judges keep rejecting his appeals. He isn’t the Atlanta child killer and he never did get a fair trial.
