Woman Who Helped Miami Escapee Arrested
Miami-Dade police have arrested a 45-year-old woman who admitted to helping Reynaldo E. Rapalo, the accused "Shenandoah Rapist," after he escaped from jail Dec. 20. She has been charged with accessory after the fact in a capital sexual battery, which is a felony.
Police said Alejandra Carvajal and Rapalo -- both illegal immigrants from Honduras -- have been friends for three years. She told investigators that she helped Rapalo because she felt sorry for him.
Carvajal told police that Rapalo called her cell phone from a telephone booth on the night he escaped from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. She met him the next day and they spent the night together in a wooded area where Rapalo was hiding. Police said Carvajal gave Rapalo food, money and let him use her cell phone.
Investigators said Rapalo made other phone calls while he was out and others may also have helped the man accused of raping seven females. The investigation is continuing.
