Boxer Thomas Hearns Charged With Hitting Son

Tuesday January 3, 2006
Former world boxing champion Thomas Hearns was released on $10,000 bond after being charged with assault and battery during a domestic dispute that left his 13-year-old son with a black eye and a cut lip.

Police were called to the Hearns' residence Sunday after receiving a call from Hearns' wife, reporting a domestic dispute. The altercation occurred when Hearns told his son to go to another room and the boy refused, police said.

Magistrate Eugene Friedman released Hearns on a $10,000 personal bond Monday and ordered him to have no contact with his son. The charge is a misdemeanor.
