Lottery Winner Used Stolen Credit Card

Friday October 28, 2005
A woman who won $1 million in the Oregon lottery may have to give up her winnings because police said she used a stolen credit card to purchase the winning ticket.

Police said Christina Goodenow, 38, used a credit card that belonged to a deceased relative to purchase several items, including the lottery ticket. After they searched her home this week they charged Goodenow with several theft-related violations, forgery and possession of methamphetamine.

Goodenow collected the first $33,500 installment of the $1 million payout -- paid over 20 years -- but when police searched her home they found no trace of the money.

"Our investigation is still trying to determine what happened to the $33,500," police Lt. Tim George said. He said if convicted of any of the charges against her, Goodenow would not be able to collect any of the lottery prize money.
