Police Seek Identity of Boy Found Near Creek

Thursday October 13, 2005
Investigators are still trying to determine the identity of a young boy, whose remains were found Saturday by someone walking their dog near a creek in a residential area between Naperville and Warrenville, Illinois.

The remains of what appears to be a young boy were so badly decomposed investigators have not been able to determine the race of the child, although they have concluded he was not African-American.

"How long he's been in that little thick of the woods, I don't know," said DuPage County sheriff's police Sgt. Anthony Romanelli.

Investigators Suspect Murder

The boy had short black hair, weighed approximately 30 pounds, was 38 and a half inches tall and was wearing a navy blue collarless shirt and navy blue pants. An autopsy has been conducted, but officials have not yet released the cause of death or other details.

"It's not confirmed but the manner in which the boy's body was discarded would suggest a homicide," DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett said.

Police are using a facial reconstructionist to make a composite drawing of the boy so that it can be compared to a national database of missing children. "What we're trying to do is catch a break," Birkett said.
