Seattle Police Investigate Duncan for Two Murders

Monday August 15, 2005
Seattle police are investigating whether or not Joseph Edward Duncan III, who has been charged with four murders and the kidnapping of Shasta Groene in Idaho, may be linked to the deaths of two young girls in July 1996.

After newspaper reports that Duncan allegedly confessed to the murders of the girls, a confession that has yet to be confirmed by authorities, Seattle investigators are trying to determine if Duncan lived near where the girls were last seen.

Sisters Sammiejo White, 11, and Carmen Cubius, 9, were abducted from a Seattle motel where they were staying with their mother in July 1996. Their remains were found in a vacant lot in February 1998.

Duncan, 42, has been charged with the murders of Brenda Groene, her boyfriend Mark McKenzie and her son Slade, 13. The federal government plans to charge him with kidnapping Shasta Groene, 8, and Dylan Groene, 9, and later killing Dylan and burning his body at a remote campsite.
