Judge Orders Aruba Suspects to Give DNA Samples

Tuesday July 19, 2005
Three suspects in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba have given DNA samples at a local hospital after a judge ordered them to do so when they refused to voluntarily provide their DNA for analysis.

According to Fox News reports, Joran Van Der Sloot, who is still being detained in the case, and the Kalpoe brothers, Deepak and Satish, who have been released from detention, were ordered to provide DNA samples Tuesday. Van Der Sloot was taken to the hospital in handcuffs to provide his DNA sample.

Investigators requested that the three provide samples late last week, but did not provide a reason why they were requesting the samples. Their attorneys reportedly told them not to volunteer the evidence, prompting a judge to issue an order demanding their DNA.

The request for the DNA may indicate that investigators have some evidence in the case they wish to compare the suspects' samples to, but no information has been released. The request for the DNA samples came after it was learned that a piece of duct tape with long blonde hair stuck to it was being analyzed for DNA evidence.

Family Hires Private Investigators

Meanwhile, the family of Natalee Holloway has decided to offer a $200,000 reward for Natalee's safe return and a $100,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts. The family has also hired an Atlanta-area private investigation firm.

T.J. Ward of Consultants International in Alpharetta, Georgia said his firm has been hired by Natalee's family to travel to Aruba to begin a private investigation.

"There's somebody out there who knows about this investigation, who knows about the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, and we're going to try to establish that on behalf of the family," Ward said.
