Van Der Sloot to Remain in Jail in Aruba Case

Thursday July 14, 2005
Joran Van Der Sloot will remain detained in an Aruba jail after his appeal of his 60-day detention in the case of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway was turned down by a three-judge appeal panel.

Hearings were conducted Tuesday in two appeals in the Holloway case. Van Der Sloot appealed a judge's decision that he remain detained while prosecutors continue to gather evidence against him in the disappearance of Natalee on May 30. Meanwhile, Aruban prosecutors appealed the judge's ruling that Deepak and Satish Kalpoe be released from detention.

The three-judge appeals panel upheld the judge's ruling in both instances. The Kalpoe brothers will remain free, and Van Der Sloot will remain in jail.
