Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Steve Fein has asked undocumented immigrants to help in his investigation of accused pedophile Dean Arthur Schwartzmiller, promising not to report illegal immigrants who come forward as victims.

"A victim is a victim whether they're undocumented or documented," Fein told reporters. "They should not be afraid to come forward. The most important thing here is making sure that if they're a victim we can take care of them and find out what happened and we can help them." Schwartzmiller was arrested last month on seven counts of child molestation of two 12-year-old boys, believed to be illegal immigrants. When he was arrested, police found seven notebooks containing the names of 36,000 children who they believe could be potential victims.

Schwartzmiller has a criminal record involving molestation and lewd behavior investigations and convictions dating back to 1970 in Alaska, Idaho and Oregon. Police believe that he was also active in Arkansas, Washington, Nevada, Texas and New York.
