Security Guards Released in Natalee Holloway Case

Tuesday June 14, 2005
The focus of the investigation into the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba fell on the three students, who gave her a ride from a nightclub the night she vanished -- after prosecutors released two former security guards who were detained in the case on the initial testimony of the students. Their stories have changed.

The release of Antonius "Mickey" John, 30, and Abraham Jones, 28, came a day after Natalee's mother said she believed the security guards were innocent and should be released.

"I'm very happy but also disappointed," Mickey John told reporters after he was released. "I knew from day one that I was innocent."

They Hold the Key

Interviewed on NBC's "Today" show, Beth Holloway Twitty said she believes the three students "hold the key" to the investigation. "I know that they know where my daughter is," she said. "I know that. Those were the last three men that were with my daughter. They know what they did with her and they know where she is."

"We have to have answers from these three young men," she added. "They hold the key. They had the answers. It's going to be up to the governments to put enough pressure on these individuals to divulge the information. They know where my daughter is."

The three students -- Satish Kalpoe, 18, and his brother, Deepak, 21, and Joran Andreas Petrus Van Der Sloot, 17 -- originally told police they took the 18-year-old Holloway to a lighthouse from the nightclub, but they did not get out of the car. They said the returned her to the Holiday Inn where she had been staying with 125 other members of her senior class.

Stories Have Changed

Fox News is now reporting that the three suspects' stories have changed now that they have been held in separate jail cells, according to the lawyer of one of the men.

Joran Van Der Sloot is now saying that his two Surinamese friends dropped him off at his home after he exchanged email addresses with Holloway. He is saying the two Kalpoe brothers were the last to see Natalee.

The two brothers, however, are now telling authorities that the left Van Der Sloot and Natalee at the beach on the northwest side of the island.

"They know these boys have been lying," Mickey Jones' attorney Chris Lejuez told FOX News.
