Three More Arrested in Natalee Holloway Case
Aruba Attorney General Caren Janssen confirmed that the three men, described as students, have been arrested. Fox News reported that one of them is the son of a local judge. The three told police that they took Holloway from the nightclub where she was last seen by friends to a beach and then dropped her off around 2 a.m. at the hotel where she was staying.
Security cameras at that hotel, however, did not show her being returned.
The three were arrested around 5:30 a.m. and police were searching their homes. Two of the men arrested are Surinamese citizens and the other is a Dutch citizen. Previously, the men told police that the Dutch student had sex with Holloway at the beach.
They said when they returned Holloway to the hotel she was so drunk that she fell down. When they tried to help her, she refused their assistance and was escorting into the hotel by a black man in a black T-shirt and black pants.
Security Guards Also Held
Meanwhile, an Aruban judge ruled yesterday that police can continue to hold two former hotel security guards in connection with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, but both men and their families deny that they ever saw the missing Alabama teen.
Authorities had hoped that at least one of the men would have provided some information about the disappearance of Holloway, but Nick John, 30, and Abraham Jones, 28, claim they never saw the teen on the night that she vanished hours before she and her classmates were scheduled to fly back to Alabama.
Speculation was some of the specific areas searched for Holloway came as a result of information obtained from the two security guards, but after the court hearing, their attorneys revealed that both men are denying knowing anything about the teen, except what they read in the press.
Under the laws in Aruba, the two men can be held for another eight days without being charged while police continue to gather evidence, but an attorney for one of the men told reporters that there has been no physical evidence linking them to Holloway.
No Evidence, No Clues
"Both of them are very concerned," Chris Lejuez, the defense attorney for one of the men, said. "They are nervous. They know they are being suspected of something very heavy, very serious, but they are confident, both of them. And they have shown that confidence to me, that they very categorically deny being involved in this case."
Lejuez said that no witnesses have reported seeing the men with Holloway. "In my opinion, there is no evidence whatsoever that they are involved in the disappearance of Natalee," he said.
Meanwhile, the common-law wife of one of the men said she and he were together continuously during the time Holloway disappeared. She told reporters that she and Jones went to a concert that night and returned home together. She said Jones was sick later that night, but showed up for work the next day at 7 a.m.
