Still No Clues for Missing Idaho Children

Wednesday June 1, 2005
Authorities are still searching for clues in the case of two children missing from a remote Idaho home where three people were found tied up and beaten to death May 16 and a search of a nearby landfill turned up no additional information.

Law enforcement investigators shifted through 800 tons of landfill garbage this week looking for clues that might have been discarded in the garbage cans near the site of the murders, but the search ended today without providing any new information.

"They found nothing," Sheriff's Capt. Ben Wolfinger said.

Dylan Groene, 9, and Shasta Groene, 8, have been missing since the bodies of their mother, her boyfriend and their brother were found in the home. Murdered were Brenda Groene, 40, Mark McKenzie, 37, and Slade Groene, 13.

Authorities also said all of the fingerprints found inside the home belonged to the occupants of the house. Not all of the blood evidence has been analyzed, but initial reports said the blood belonged only to the victims. No blood from the missing children were found, they said.

Following one of many tips police have received in the case, a look-out was released in Oregon for a 2001 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck, but that lead also turned out to be a dead-end.
