Ranch Deaths Murder-Suicide, Police Say

Wednesday May 11, 2005
David McGowan, a 44-year-old investigator for prosecutors in California, shot his family members in the head as they slept in their rural Riverside County ranch home and left song lyrics which may have indicated his motive.

Sheriff Boy Doyle said McGowan killed is son Chase, 14, daughters Paige, 10, and Rayne, 8 as well as his 42-year-old wife Karen and his 75 mother, Angelia. Doyle said McGowan left a trail of bloody sock prints between the rooms of the victims.

Apparently McGowan then dialed 911, said nothing, and shot himself.

Neighbors and friends told reporters there was nothing about McGowan's behavior that would have indicated that he was capable of such action.
