Father Arrested in Murder of Illinois Girls

Tuesday May 10, 2005
An Illinois man with a violent past has been arrested for the Mother's Day murder of his 8-year-old daughter and her nine-year-old best friend. Jerry Hobbs, 34, "found" the bodies of the two Monday after they were reported missing Sunday afternoon.

Laura Hobbs and Krystal Tobias were found beaten and stabbed in the woods near a park bike path. They were found fully clothed and apparently were not sexually assaulted, authorities said.

Hobbs, who was recently released from prison, was questioned extensively by police after the discovery of the girls' bodies. Hobbs will appear in court Wednesday morning and may face additional charges, but police would not give details on what those charges might entail.

Hobbs criminal record dates back to 1990 in Texas and includes arrests for assault and resisting arrest.
