Online Pharmacy Ring Busted

Wednesday April 20, 2005
The Drug Enforcement Administration has arrested 20 international Internet pharmaceutical traffickers operating in the United States, India, Asia, Europe and the Caribbean who sold drugs illegally to people of all ages through a network of 200 bogus Internet pharmacies.

The arrests came as a result of a year-long "Operation Cyber Chase" investigation into a worldwide drug distribution network using "rogue" online pharmacies. The DEA said the traffickers were shipping Schedule II-V controlled substances including narcotics, amphetamines, and anabolic steroids directly to buyers of all ages without any medical exam.

Arrests were made in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Ft. Lauderdale and Sarasota, Florida; Abilene and Tyler, Texas; New York, NY; Greenville, SC; and Rochester, New York. Other arrests were made in Costa Rica and India.
