Another Sex Offender Strikes in Florida

Saturday April 16, 2005
A registered sex offender in Florida has confessed to killing 13-year-old Sarah Lunde and trying to hide her body in an abandoned fish farm pond a half mile from her home in Ruskin.

David Onstott, 36, was charged with first-degree murder a day after investigators found the girl's partially clothed body. Investigators said the Onstott had gone to great lengths to keep her body from being discovered, but they would not give details.

Onstott has been held in Hillsborough County Jail since last week on unrelated charges. He is on probation for a rape conviction.

Sheriff David Gee said Onstott went to the Lunde home looking for Sarah's mother, Kelly May Lunde, who was not at home. Sarah and Onstott got into a fight, he put her into a choke hold and strangled her to death, Gee said.

When Sarah's brother came home, he found Sarah gone and an open beer bottle on the table. The bottle later disappeared from the house. Police believe Onstott returned to the Lunde home, broke in and removed to beer bottle to cover his tracks.
