Cops Take Down Intruder on Capitol Steps

Monday April 11, 2005
Cable news networks reported that a well-dressed man with two suitcases and a bullhorn, threatening to blow up the building, caused the West end of the United States Capitol Building to be partially evacuated. He was rushed by four police officers, taken down hard, and dragged into custody.

Later reports said the man never said anything to police. The "small Asian" man stood at "parade rest" for almost 45 minutes as four armed police officers approached from the rear. A law enforcement officer tackled him from behind and two officers dragged him away from the roller-type suitcases.

"What they did to get ready to take that man down was extraordinary," Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said. "We have the finest-trained police force of any place in the country."
