Blake Defense Attacks Credibility of Witnesses

Friday March 4, 2005
Defense attorney Gerald Schwartzbach attacked the credibility of several prosecution witnesses, calling one of them a liar "defending his backside," as he made closing arguments to the jury in the Robert Blake murder trial. The jury is expected to begin deliberations sometime Friday, Mar. 4, 2005.

One by one, Schwartzbach went through the list of witnesses against Blake and explained to the jury why they should not believe their stories. He also brought up the character of Blake's wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, to demonstrate that there were a lot of people who had a motive to kill her, because her "business was the business of ripping off vulnerable men."

Schwartzbach will complete his closing arguments Friday then the prosecution will have the opportunity to rebut, before the case goes to the jury.
