Robber Arrested After Bragging on Radio Show

Thursday February 24, 2005
Stupid Criminals File: A Chicago-area man has been arrested for a bank robbery after he called into a radio station and gave specific details about the unsolved crime. An FBI agent listening to the show was able to trace the call back to the caller's cell phone.

The radio station has a segment in which listeners call in to confess to crimes -- typically stealing something from work and other minor offenses. But Randy Washington, 24, gave listeners details of a robbery that netted $81,000 from a TCF bank located inside a grocery store in South Chicago Heights.

"The girl on the inside, she was the main key. If you want to rob a bank, you need someone on the inside," Washington told the radio station.

Washington and 19-year-old William Slate were charged with one count each of felony bank robbery. Investigators are still looking for others who were involved in the robbery.
