Hunter Shooting Suspect Pleads Not Guilty
Wednesday December 29, 2004
Chai Vang, accused of shooting six deer hunters to death Nov. 21 in Wisconsin and wounding two others, has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges. Wisconsin Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager is personally prosecuting the case against Vang. The 36-year-old truck driver, who is a Hmong immigrant, claims he acted in self defense after the hunting party opened fire on him first when they found them tresspassing. Vang's lawyer told reporters that he was considering changing Vang's plea to not guilty by reason of insanity. His trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 12.
