Weaver Pleads Guilty to Killing Ashley Pond, Miranda Gaddis

Wednesday September 22, 2004
An Oregon man who killed two of his daughter's friends and hid their bodies on his property pleaded guilty to murder charges and received two life sentences for the deaths of Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis.

Ward Weaver avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty to killing Pond and Gaddis, who were friends and classmates of his own daughter. They both disappeared within two months of each other near Weaver's rental home.

FBI agents found 12-year-old Ashley's body in a barrel under a concrete slab. The body of 13-year-old Miranda was in a box in Weaver's tool shed.

Weaver's father, also named Ward Weaver, is on death row in California. He was convicted of killing a woman who he buried in his back yard beneath concrete.
